Every structure is a testament to your reputation. By adding a peak sign to your buildings, you will be advertising your business for as long as the building is standing. Then why present your brand on anything less than impressive heavy gauge porcelain on steel? Cardboard, plastic, or tin will never measure up to your brew's enduring quality and unparalleled taste.

The Porcelain Standard is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of porcelain enameled signs. We manufacture a versatile product for various applications, from industrial & safety signs, point of purchase & nostalgic advertising signs. Our product is unique. Porcelain enamel's brilliant colors, flint-hard finish & incredible resistance to weather & fading make it perfect for harsh environments and long-lasting advertising.

During the early 1900s, porcelain became the premier means to promote a new product or service. Porcelain enamel advertising became so prevalent that many merchants used porcelain signs. Whether you're a marketing guru looking for a rich, retro media to promote your new product or an electric utility engineer looking for permanent signage that will never be replaced, The Porcelain Standard has the answer.
Services
Vern E. Messner founded the Cleveland Porcelain Enameling Co. in 1936.
He first set up shop in a garage and offered porcelain enameling services for stove parts and also produced porcelain advertising signs.
Within six months he had the financial backing he needed to relocate the business to its present location in Cleveland's Slavic Village neighborhood.
The workers were Polish & Czech immigrants who lived in the area.
Now led by the third generation of Messner's, Standard Signs is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of porcelain enameled signs.
Unlike most paints, porcelain enamel color pastes are composed of inorganic minerals (capable of withstanding the intense heat).
This is what gives porcelain signs their incredible durability.
The colors are applied to the sign using the silk-screening process.
Each individual color requires its own screening.
A 3 color sign requires 3 screenings.
Each time a color is screened, the enamel must dry before the next color is applied.
When all the colors are applied, the sign is run through our furnace for a final firing.
Large sheets of special enameling steel are sent from the mill to our factory.
We begin fabrication by sheering the large sheets into individual signs.
Intricate shapes can be formed using stamping dies or laser-cutting techniques.
The steel then goes through a series of cleaning baths to prepare for coating.
The first "ground coat" is applied and run through our furnace at 1470°F.
This application is specially formulated to bond the porcelain to the steel.
The steel is then given a second coating, a white "cover coat, " and again run on a conveyor through our furnace.
